Hulkenberg heads Williams charge with P8

30 July 2010

Hulkenberg heads Williams charge with P8 F1 2010 rookie Nico Hulkenberg made a good start to the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend today and finished practice inside the top-ten in his Williams-Cosworth FW32.

Hulkenberg, who was tenth fastest this morning on a 1 minute 22.966 seconds, improved in the second session, ending the day eighth overall, three tenths off Robert Kubica and ahead of both reigning world champion, Jenson Button and F1 record-breaker, Michael Schumacher.

"It was a positive day for us, we worked efficiently through our programme and got plenty of work done," said Hulkenberg. "It looks similar to Hockenheim here in terms of our relative pace and hopefully if everything goes well, we will be inside the top ten tomorrow."

Team-mate Rubens Barrichello also had a pretty good day and while he was only twelfth in FP2, he had been fifth this morning in FP1. His best lap was a 1m 21.844s.

"My day went well and we managed to finish plenty of comparative tests which are important for the weekend," stated the Brazilian.

"We can see already though that it is going to be a very close grid. It will require our best efforts to qualify at the head of the group of cars we are running among. All of this makes it a very busy weekend in terms of the effort we need to make to do well."

Williams’ director of engineering, Patrick Head added: "Today was a normal Friday for us.

"Both tyres look stable, but it looks as if the softer tyre is reasonably faster than the prime. As Nico says, our work in P3 will be aimed at achieving top ten qualifying positions tomorrow afternoon."
