24 February 2001

Peugeot Super 106 Cup Tops 30 Mark. Once again the Peugeot Sport Super 106 Cup proves to be UKs most popular one make championship with registrations topping the 30 mark. Seven of last years top 10 are returning to do battle once again, many for their third year and they are joined by an influx of new names all eager to stamp their mark in this highly competitive Championship.

With prizes second to none up for grabs and start money on each event, the 2001 Super 106 Cup looks once more to set the stages alight as the Pocket Rockets take to the roads.

2000 front runners Mike Faulkner, Rory Galligan, Rob Russell and Dave Nutt will be firm favourites to snatch the title, while reigning Rookie Champion Simon Hughes is looking to add Junior and overall Champion titles to his name, in what will only be his second year of rallying.

However, with 16 new registrations to date the competition is open as the new boys throw down the gauntlet in the hope of claiming the laurels.

The new blood into the Cup covers a range of experience and age, from long time Peugeot stalwart Les Alfrey to the youngest competitor seventeen year old Barbadian Barry Mayers.

Ten Irish crews cross the water this year, six of them new to the Championship - all aiming to improve on the loose and show the rest how to rally on tarmac! Names to watch old and new are Rory Galligan, Seamus Donnelly, Paul Crossen, Adrian McElvany and rally newcomer Kris Meeke, who
finished 1st in class and 4th overall on the Bulldog Rally his first ever event.

The Gwynned Rally on the 10th March, based out of Wrexham sees the start of the 2001 Super 106 Cup action, running alongside the Formula Rally contingent contesting the Wrexham Rally.
